What if you need to address floor swaying in your office after you move in?

vibration suppression equipment

Leave it to Floor Mate to provide floor vibration countermeasures after building construction is completed, quickly improving vibration problems and creating a comfortable office space with superior features such as a size that can accommodate narrow spaces under OA floors, easy installation by simply placing the floor, and a minimum construction time of half a day.

issue

In recent years, many buildings have been constructed that consist of large-span floors. Large-span floors are often built with steel framing, which can lead to complaints of floor vibration after construction is completed.
The problematic floor swaying also occurs when people walk. When people walk at a tempo that excites the floor's most vibration-prone frequency (natural frequency), a resonance phenomenon occurs and floor vibration is amplified. A common solution to this floor vibration resonance phenomenon is to install a vibration control device (TMD). However, large TMDs are often installed behind the ceiling, resulting in large-scale construction work. To solve this problem, we have commercialized Floor Mate, a vibration control device for installation under OA floors, which can significantly shorten the construction period.
A certain office floor also had a walking vibration problem that was causing problems. The structure is S construction with a span of 13.8 m x 9.5 m. We measured the natural frequency, which was 7.7 Hz. When walking on this floor, which resonates at a natural frequency (7.7 Hz), a maximum vibration acceleration of 5.6 cm/s2 was generated (this is slightly above the 90% threshold for perception, so it is safe to say that most people would feel the shaking). Since the office was already in use, it was not feasible to carry out large-scale construction work, so we decided to install Yacmo's Floormate, which allows construction work to be carried out while the office is in use, under the OA floor.

counter-measure

 Six Floor Mates (40 kg type) were installed in a span of 13.8 m x 9.5 m.

result

We were able to reduce the vibration acceleration from a maximum of 5.6 cm/s2 to 2.2 cm/s2 when two people were walking. According to the occupant performance evaluation guidelines of the Architectural Institute of Japan, this means that the shaking, which was about V-90 (90% of the perceived establishment), has been improved to about V-50 (50% of the perceived establishment).
