How to Protect Japan's Cultural Properties from Earthquakes - Ultra Compact Seismic Isolation Table

Yacmo's ultra-compact seismic isolation table “Angel Utena” is now new. The improved seismic isolation mechanism demonstrates high seismic isolation performance against long-period seismic motion, and the simple design with reduced height reduces the risk of earthquakes without compromising the beauty of cultural assets and works of art.
issue
In large-scale temple renovations, seismic isolation is often used to protect important cultural properties from earthquakes. At a certain temple, cultural properties of various sizes and weights were to be mounted on seismic isolation devices, and appropriate seismic isolation devices were selected from Yacmo's extensive lineup. To confirm the seismic isolation performance, we selected six types of earthquakes that had occurred in the past and conducted simulations. One seismic wave could cause severe seismic isolation strokes, so we started a renewal project for the seismic isolation table “Angel Utena”.
counter-measure
The performance of Angel Utena is determined by the restoring mechanism of the V-shaped rail and the damping mechanism inside the roller.

In this renewal, we sought a balance between stroke length and damping to maximize the performance of the seismic isolation system. We explored the parameters through detailed simulations, confirmed the values of the parameters through experiments on prototypes, and selected from among several prototypes the one that was closest to the optimum parameters based on simulations.
result
Simulation was performed again with the parameters obtained from the experiment to confirm that the effect was obtained.
At this point, it is important to note that the parameters must be able to handle a wide range of seismic waves, not just a single seismic wave. The seismic isolation system must be reliable over a long period of time, not just designed for a specific case. Yacmo's seismic isolation systems are constantly evolving based on our long years of experience and accumulated data.
