Solved a vibration problem for a cleaning plant to surrounding residences!

This is an example of consultation for a vibration problem at a laundry factory. Yacmo provided consulting services to solve a vibration problem caused by a large commercial washing machine to the surrounding area, and was able to solve the shaking problem at a neighboring residence with simple measures.
issue
In the case of a cleaning factory located near a residential area, as the factory equipment and machines become larger and more powerful, vibration from the machines often causes large shaking in the surrounding buildings, which is often a problem. The factory was also experiencing problems with the surrounding buildings due to the large machine vibrations that occur when large machines are installed.

Yacmo first measured vibrations at the cleaning plant and neighboring residences to understand the current situation. The floor vibration of the neighboring residence was measured, and found that the vibration during washing and dehydration was transmitted through the ground, causing a vibration level of more than 80 dB, which is higher than the 65-70 dB that affects shallow sleep (vibration level value). Further detailed frequency analysis revealed that a resonance condition occurred where the vibration during washing and the natural frequency of the neighboring residential buildings almost matched, causing the surrounding buildings to sway more.

The measures were subject to the following conditions 1 and 2.
- Reduce vibration levels of surrounding buildings with vibration problems to 65 dB or less
- Do not change the location of equipment
counter-measure
Based on the vibration measurement results, the client and our company discussed various countermeasures and decided to adjust the washing machine motor speed as a countermeasure that would be both maximally effective and inexpensive.

result
By adjusting the speed of the washing machine motors, the vibration level of the surrounding buildings after the measures were taken was below 65 dB in both cases. We were able to solve the vibration problem to the neighboring residential units without reinforcing the foundation or installing anti-vibration devices. Thus, when vibration problems are caused by resonance phenomena, a little effort can dramatically change the situation.
