Even after construction is completed! Immediate solution to floor sway problems in existing buildings!
Countermeasures against floor sway in existing buildings after construction is completed are difficult due to the large scale and long time required. With Yacmo's ultra-thin vibration control system, countermeasures and improvements can be made in a single day when the building is closed.
issue
When floor sway problems occur in existing buildings after construction is completed, typical countermeasures include adding or reinforcing column and beam members and installing vibration control devices such as TMDs. These countermeasures are technologies that are designed to be installed in newly constructed buildings, and require the securing of large installation spaces and the transportation and installation of heavy materials (Figure 1). In existing buildings, it has been difficult to implement these measures because of the large scale and long construction period required, including extensive removal of ceiling finishes, substantial relocation of plumbing equipment, etc. in the ceiling, and tenant closure during the construction period.
After construction was completed, complaints were received that vibration could be felt when walking in an existing office building, and countermeasures were required.

counter-measure
In this case, the ultra-thin size vibration suppressor Floormate (FM) was used as a countermeasure. With a height of 44 mm and a width of 400 mm, it fits on an OA floor and does not interfere with the support legs.
This time, eight units were installed in consideration of the effective mass and structural strength of the target floor (Figure 2). Installation is a quick process requiring only the removal of a portion of the OA floor and placement. Adjustment of the vibration frequency to ensure the damping effect can also be done on the spot (Figure 3) (Table 1).

result
Two people walked in unison and evaluated the building using the occupant performance evaluation criteria of the Architectural Institute of Japan to confirm the vibration control effect.
At the V-VI level, when the vibration was not controlled, more than 90% of the people felt the vibration and rated it as quite bothersome and quite uncomfortable. When vibration control was used, vibration was reduced to about 1/3, and the evaluation was not very bothersome and not very uncomfortable, a significant improvement (Figure 4).
The series of work, including partial removal of the OA floor, installation and adjustment of FM, effect measurement, and restoration of the OA floor, was completed in one day when the office was closed, and the vibration environment was improved without affecting business operations.
